How Trees Can Affect Your Property Value

Trees are a great way to increase property value (by 7%-11%), especially if the tree is in your front yard. However, it’s not a good idea to start planting trees all over your yard without doing a little research first because you might actually cause your property value to decrease if you’re not careful.
The way some tree roots grow can wreak havoc on your foundation. There’s also the risk of tree branches (or even the whole tree) falling on your house if planted too close. Even small tree species should be planted no closer than 8 feet to your home.
South Texas trees that we highly recommend NOT planting anywhere near your house are White Ash, Oak, Silver Maple, and American Elm. Their invasive root systems spell trouble for your yard, sidewalks, fences, and foundation.
For trees that have more docile root systems, we recommend American Hornbeam and American Holly. If you would like to do your own research on trees that grow in well in South Texas, our zone is Zone 9B.
Other ways to help your property value from decreasing is to make sure trees are healthy and properly maintained for curb appeal. If trees are dead or unkempt, it could be hurting your property value.
